The Spectacular Coronation Carpets

During Easter visitors can experience the coronation carpets at Rosenborg Castle, where they emerge from their dark storage room in order to cast glory on the Great Hall.
The seven coronation carpets date back to the 17th century and have all been at use during the coronations of the Danish kings.

The most important coronation carpet had its place between the throne and the alter, where the king was anointed. It originates from the fabled Isfahan and is weaved with gold threads and is decorated with twelve nuances of silk yearn.
The six other carpets are partly knotted, partly embroided. They are all internationally unusual in terms of their incredible condition and they are extraordinary for their time because of pattern and technique.

With the coronation carpets at display, the Great Hall radiates with all the pomp and circumstance of the past.

From the 7th of April-17th of April.
