’Nytårstaffel’ at Amalienborg Castle

True to tradition, Her Majesty The Queen welcomed the new year with the government and selected guests at the annual ’Nytårstaffel’ in Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg Castle. The party is an old tradition, and legend says that it brings happiness and wealth to the Danish nation in the year to come.

‘Nytårstaflet’ is one of the most formidable events in the Royal Family’s calendar, and calls for a special dress code – Galla A. On this night, The Queen carries her finest jewelry and orders that glistens beautifully in the flash light when she arrives at the Palace.

This year, The Queen wore her pearl poire set, consisting of a tiara, earrings and a brooch used as a necklace.

The Queen is the Sovereign of the Orders for both The Order of the Elephant, and The Order of Dannebrog, and therefore she wore the chain of gold with the white elephant around her neck and The Order of Dannebrog breast cross on her dress.

If you did not catch the fine details on television, you can see different copies of The Queens orders in The Treasury at Rosenborg Castle. Here they glisten alongside The Crown Jewels that are freely exhibited for the public.

The Danish Crown Jewels are the only ones in the world that are both exhibited in a museum and worn by the regent on special occasions. This ensures that everyone can enjoy the fine pieces of artisanship.
